LAHORE: The Lahore Race Club has dished out an eight-race card for the 34th Lahore Winter Meeting to be held at the Racecourse here on Sunday.

The heavy showers in Lahore on Wednesday and Thursday had made the grassy course soft and horses who have liking for such conditions may take some advantage to put up better performance against those averse to such facilitation.

The Class IV and Class V races, the main and the supporting event, has been declared void that has taken most of the day’s racing charm away although the weather in the Punjab’s metropolis city is fair enough following wide-spread rains all over the province. May be the owners not inclined to run their horses, have put them to rest when the winter meetings are ending.

With the two main events declared void Sunday’s race card has now been restricted to class VI and class VII horses only.

Now the feature event is the Turbat Plate class VI division I which has eight horses. The supporting event, the Turbat Plate class VI division II has eleven runners.

In all, 78 horses will be vying for eight events, first six races comprising horses in class VII to be gone over 900 metres. The other two races consisting of class VI animals will be contested over 1,100 metres.

Meanwhile, the LRC stewards have taken due notice of the unfit physical condition of the majority riders and ordered all of them to shed their extra pounds to make them fully fit for riding. Their lack of fitness often results in their poor performance in the saddle.

A communiqué issued on Thursday made it compulsory for every rider to undertake exercise two-hour daily in the LRC gymnasium for five-days in a week. The absentees will not be allowed to ride in races, it warned.

The first race will be held at 1.00pm.
