Indian iron ore for Pakistan

Published July 7, 2003

NEW DELHI, July 6: A firm in the western Indian state of Goa will export iron ore to Pakistan, a report said on Sunday.

The United News of India reported that Sesa Goa Limited, India’s major iron ore exporter in the private sector, has signed a four-year contract with Pakistan Steel Mills to export 1.17 million tons of iron ore every year.

The company would earn 15.21 million dollars every year through the contract, company’s managing director Len Dein said.

Dein told UNI that the contract was a good opportunity to strengthen bilateral trade relations between the two South Asian neighbours.

In the past, the state-owned Mines and Minerals Trading Corporation used to be the sole exporter of iron ore to Pakistan.—dpa
