KOHAT: After the introduction of the right to information law, the people can gain access to the government departments’ record.

This was stated by chief information commissioner of the Right to Information Commission (RIC), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sahibzada Mohammad Khalid during a training workshop for public information officers (PIOs) at Kohat University of Science and Technology (KUST) here.

The event was attended by commissioners at the RTI commission Abdul Matin and Kalimullah, KUST vice chancellor Professor Nasir Jamal Khattak and PIOs of various government departments in Kohat, Karak and Hangu districts.

Mr Khalid said the right to information law had done away with status quo and had provided the people with an opportunity to know the sought-after information about government departments.

He said under the RTI law, it had been made compulsory for the government departments to place record on websites, while PIOs would receive requests from the people for the sought-after information about their respective departments.

Mr Abdul Matin informed participants about the RTI law’s background and salient features and his organisation’s powers and role.

He said the RTI law would help bridge the gulf between the rulers and the ruled.

Mr Kalimullah supported the RTI law, saying its introduction was direly needed.

HOUSE DAMAGED IN ROCKET ATTACK: The house of an internally displaced person was partially damaged after a rocket hit it in Dheri Banda here the other day.

Liaquat Khan of Orakzai Agency told Bilitang police that a rocket fired by unidentified people hit his house damaging one room.

He, however, said members of his family remained safe in the attack. The IDP said he didn’t have enmity with anyone. Police registered a case of the attack and began investigation.
