Wild boar hunting

Published April 17, 2014

THIS is apropos Ikram Junaidi’s report ‘Wild boar hunters arrested in the capital’ (April 8) regarding the illegal hunting of wild boars in Islamabad where 14 people were arrested with the help of the police.

After the capture all the wild boars are shifted to local areas for gambling. Wild boars are incredibly difficult to kill and will put up a fight until the end.

Many dogs are employed to chase the boars. In baiting, dogs are wounded by tusks, bitten and trampled.

Putting dogs under such a dangerous situation is inhumane and should not be legal.

Wild boars are beneficial to woodland ecology. They increase floral diversity because their rooting improves soil fertility and provides a seed bed in which annual plants can germinate.

I request the Capital Development Authority to impose a strict ban on this barbaric and cruel sport.
