DHAKA, July 6: Dhaka on Sunday assured Yangon of not interfering with the latter’s internal affairs, while hoping restoration of democracy in Myanmar, Foreign Secretary Shamsher Mobin Chowdhury told newsmen on Sunday.

Dhaka also assured that it would not allow anyone to use Bangladesh territory against its neighbours, including Myanmar.

The assurances came when visiting Myanmar’s Foreign Minister Win Aung met Prime Minister Khaleda Zia and Foreign Minister M. Morshed Khan on Sunday. Win Aung, who has come to Dhaka also as special envoy of Myanmar’s military junta General Than Shwe, apprised them of the current domestic situation in Myanmar.

The special envoy also handed over a letter of Myanmar head of government General Than Shwe to Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia.

REMITTANCES: The remittance flow from Non-Resident-Bangladeshis into Bangladesh in the fiscal year 2002-2003 crossed $3 billion mark, which is an all-time record.
