No one is indispensable, but some are irreplaceable. Famous talk show host David Letterman’s announcement that he’s going to retire in 2015 has come as a bit of a shock. It has to be said that he is one of the finest, wittiest and wisest talk show hosts that ever graced the TV screens.

This writer still remembers one of the countless moments when he made his guest go red in the face. He was interviewing Ellen Degeneres (who recently anchored the Oscar ceremony). The first thing that he said as soon as she sat in her chair was, “You and I have one thing in common: we both like girls!”

Lettermen sir, you are the bestest!
