UPLIFT ACTIVITIES: The elders of Khwezai and Baizai tribes on Wednesday demanded early resumption of work on development schemes and provision of drinking water in their localities in Mohmand Agency.

Talking to journalists here, Baizai peace committee chief Malik Sultan Koda Khel and Khwezai peace committee head Malik Fayaz Khan said there was an acute shortage of drinking water in the area.

The elders assured their cooperation to the political administration and security forces in restoration of peace in the region.

Malik Fayaz said that they were peace-loving people and wanted peace and development in the agency. “The government should install solar tube-wells in each village so drinking water problem is resolved,” he demanded.

He said some schools and health units, destroyed during militancy, were rehabilitated but staff was not deployed there. He said due to lack of basic facilities many tribesmen had migrated to other areas.

Baizai peace committee chief Malik Sultan Koda Khel said after restoration of peace in the border areas, the government should start development activities there.

“Many tribesmen do not come to their homes due to non-availability of health, water and education facilities in their localities,” he said.

Mr Koda Khel said the tribesmen whose houses were destroyed during military operation were yet to be compensated. He also demanded reopening of the only trade route with Afghanistan in the agency as business activities were suffering due to its closure.
