PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government and the Peshawar High Court Chief Justice Mian Fasihul Mulk on Sunday constituted a joint inquiry committee to probe the incident which triggered a tussle between the judiciary and executive in Mansehra district.

According to a press release issued by the provincial home department, the inquiry committee comprises the Peshawar district and sessions judge, Shehbar Khan, and the provincial secretary of local government, Hifzur Rehman.

The committee has been tasked to probe the circumstances that led to the incident on April 1 at Balakot tehsil of Mansehra. The committee will also fix responsibility and make recommendations to avoid such incidents in future.

Both the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf chief Imran Khan had taken notice of the occurrence and sought reports in that regard.

The administration in Mansehra alleged that a local judge, his official guards and court staff had beaten up an assistant commissioner over the issue of encroachment of the tehsil offices’ land in Balakot. The incident had resulted into growing tension between the judiciary and executive.
