MULTAN: Of the 51 monuments located in the Multan city and being looked after by government departments, one is the shrine of Shahdana Shaheed.

There is another grave in the shrine too. That is of Syed Kamal Shah, who according to Ghulam Sakina, a fervent devotee of the saint, is the elder brother of Shahdana Shaheed.

The shrine was included in 52 monuments of Multan surveyed by a private firm in 2009 on the orders of then prime minister Yousuf Raza Gilani under a package for the preservation and rehabilitation of these monuments.

The package was never realised and funds were only released for the rehabilitation of Musa Pak Shaheed shrine that is located in Uch Sharif.

After the survey of the shrine, the firm concluded that it seemed that due to the negligence of the authorities, the original cladding of the tomb had been lost. The firm recommended an investigation to find out the original finish and decoration.

Multan Archeology Department In Charge Malik Ghulam Muhammad said there were five types of monuments, which were looked after by the Federal Archeology Department, the Punjab Archeology Department, the Evacuee Trust Property Board (Hindu and Muslim) and private monuments.

He said the PC-I of the project was dispatched to the Prime Minister House in 2009. Funds were provided only for one the project of Musa Pak Shaheed Mosque while work on the shrine of Musa Pak Shaheed was being done with a US grant.
