GUJRANWALA: A local court on Wednesday ordered arrest of 22 Central Jail officials including former superintendent and his deputy for torturing an ex bank manager.

Former bank manager Malik Ishaq moved the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Kaneez Faiza, complaining that jail superintendent Malik Ziauddin, deputy superintendent Hafiz Azizullah and assistant jail superintendent Haq Nawaz besides 19 other employees tortured him and fractured his nose.

The Satellite Town police registered a case against them on the order of the Lahore High Court.

The police failed to arrest the accused even 20 days after registration of the case.

The judge ordered the police to arrest the accused and submit the charge sheet against them.

SCAM: The district administration has unearthed a scam of recruitment of officials in Nandipur and Qila Deedar Singh municipal towns on fake domiciles.

The administration on Wednesday took service records of eight employees into custody and initiated an inquiry. The Nandipur and Qila Deedar Singh municipal towns had recruited sanitary workers and other employees on an ad hoc basis a few years ago. The district government was scrutinising the service records of these employees for regularising them and found their domiciles fake.

The officials include Saddam Hussain, Abdul Waheed, Shahzad Masih, Tanvir Masih, Rasheed Masih, Qaiser and Zeeshan Nazir. The administrations of towns and district launched an inquiry against these officials.

INJURED: Thirteen people including two women and an infant suffered burns in two incidents -- a mill boiler and gas cylinder explosion -- on Wednesday.

The boiler of Crown Rice Mills near Sadhoki exploded as a result of which Imran Khurshed, Imran Rashid, Allah Ditta, Ajmal, Arshad, Rashid Usman, Karamat, Iqbal and Basharat were injured.

A gas cylinder exploded in a house in Civil Lines, inflicting burns on Maleeha, Hanifa, infant Quratul Aain and Irfan.
