SUKKUR, July 4: The people held protest demonstrations against Hesco officials by blocking sections of the Indus Highway in Thal and Mubarak Pur Towns, Jacobabad district, on Thursday.

They were protesting against Hesco officials who failed to provide them a smooth electric supply and were resorting to load-sheddings on a daily basis. Three protesters fell unconscious due to the summer heat.

Soon the Mirpur Buriro police arrived and booked at least 75 people along with the Naib Nazim and some councillors on different criminal charges.

The police charged that the protesters not only raised hurdles in the path of their duties but they also burnt tyres and pelted stones on them. Police said that they blocked the Indus Highway for several hours and created a law and order situation.

Some of those who have been booked are Naib Nazim Shafiullah, Councilor Gul Muneer Soomro, Abdul Rasool Mastoi, Mohammad Ismail, Bismillah Mahar, and Wahid Mahar.

It may be recalled that on the call of the Shehri Ittehad of Thal and Mubarak Pur, a shutter-down strike was observed in Mubarak Pur. The protesters blocked the Indus Highway and raised slogans against Hesco officials.

When police arrived there to disperse the protesters, the latter started pelting stones on the former. So the police arrested some trouble makers.

Later, a small group of people of Thal town held a demonstration against the arrest and blocked the Indus Highway.

In the meantime, Baboo Abdul Qadir, Nazim of Thal Town, and the SDO, Hesco, arrived there and assured the protesters that all the arrested persons would be released.

DEMO: A protest demonstration was held in Naushahro Feroz on Thursday against the breakdown of the power supply which lasted several hours.

The protesters blocked the National Highway and burnt tyres due to which a traffic jam was caused.

The DCO, Naushahro Feroze, Khursheed Naeem Malik, arrived there and tried to calm down the protesters. The latter told him that the power supply to their areas was cut off three days back and Hesco officials were not listening to their complaints.

The people complained that they were passing sleepless nights and no one bothered to alleviate their suffering.

The DCO assured the protesters that the power supply would be restored on Friday.

HESCO: A major fault developed in the city grid station on Wednesday at 9pm causing a power breakdown in half of Sukkur.

The worst sufferers were the patients of the Civil and private hospitals of Sukkur.

An official of the grid station told this correspondent that the grid machine tripped due to a heavy load and the staff was trying to fix the fault.

However, a Hesco official, SITE sub-division, Sukkur, told this correspondent on the phone that the power supply breakdown was the result of the falling of the 11 KV HT conductor, on Airport Road, near the Imam Bargah.

So the Hesco officials were giving different statements which were creating doubts in the minds of the people.
