KARACHI: Former champions and hosts Sindh Colours gave a 4-0 drubbing to low-profile Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to post their maiden win in pool A of the 28th National Women’s Hockey Championship at Hockey Club of Pakistan Stadium on Tuesday.

In an earlier match, Balochistan also conjured up their maiden victory in pool B by getting the better of Sindh Whites 2-0.

Both the matches were of academic interest and have no bearing on the top four positions that were already decided on Monday.

After delivering pathetic performance in the previous matches that left much to be desired, losing 2-3 to Punjab Colours, 0-2 to HEC and 0-11 to Wapda, Sindh Colours netted twice in each half to post emphatic win.

Sanam drew blood in the fifth minute while Nain Tara consolidated the lead five minutes later. On resumption, Sumaiya and Bushra added one goal apiece in 45th and 56th minutes to complete the rout.

Sindh Colours secured fourth position while Khyber Pakhtunkhwa finished at the bottom losing all four games.

Balochistan carved out a 2-0 victory over Sindh Whites that helped them finish ahead of the latter in pool B.

Nasreen and Fatima scored a goal each for winners in 43rd and 59th minutes after barren first half.

Holders Wapda, the pool A champions, faces runners-up of pool B Army in the first semi-final on Wednesday at 9.00am while pool B leaders Railways will be up against pool A runners-up Punjab Colours in the other semi-final at 11.00am.

Wednesday’s fixtures: Semi-finals: At 9.00am: Wapda v Army

At 11.00am: Railways v Punjab Colours
