QUETTA: The Balochistan Assembly, in a resolution adopted by it on Saturday, has urged the government to eradicate poppy and hemp cultivation in the province and launch a crackdown against drug mafia which had set up hashish plants in Qila Abdullah district.

Moving the joint resolution, Planning and Development Minister Dr Hamid Khan Achakzai said dozens of hashish plants were operating in Qila Abdullah district under the nose of the Anti-Narcotics Force and other law-enforcement agencies.

“A plant has been set up just a few yards away from a checkpost of the Frontier Corps in Gulistan area of the district.”

The house adopted another resolution calling for the establishment of a campus of the Balochistan University in Nasirabad division. The resolution was tabled by Mohammad Khan Lehri.
