ISLAMABAD, July 3: Rawalpindi bench of the Lahore High Court on Thursday issued notice to two officials of the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council to explain why contempt proceedings should not be initiated against them for not obeying court’s orders.

The division bench, comprising Justice Maulvi Anwarul Haq and Justice Tanvir Bashir Ansari, issued notice to PMDC secretary Dr Sohail Karim Hashmi and assistance secretary Dr Riffat Ansari.

The contempt of court petition was filed by Daud Shami, who is a member of the governing body of a private medical college.

It was contended that the respondents disobeyed the orders of the High Court and also violated the undertaking given by them in ICA No. 153 of 2002.

The court in its previous order had directed the PMDC officials to remain in the ambits of Ordinance 1962, under they had no powers to grant or withdraw recognition of the medical institution or to inspect them for the purpose of recognition. —Staff Reporter
