GUJRANWALA: Traders of Satellite Town Market blocked on Wednesday the Girls College Road against a clean-up operation by the Nandipur Municipal Administration.

The protesters attempted to hold hostage the city assistant commissioner who got arrested the market traders union president and removed all encroachments.

Reports said when the anti-encroachment squad launched the operation, traders put up resistance and blocked the road. In the meantime AC Attiqur Rehman reached there along with a police contingent.

The protesters exchanged harsh words with him and tried to hold him hostage. The AC got arrested traders’ union president Asim Khan and ordered the squad to remove all encroachments in front of traders’ shops.

Gujranwala Anjuman Tajran President Fazalur Rehman Babar also reached there and tried to ease the situation.

The traders alleged the administration had suddenly launched the operation without giving them any notice.

The administration rejected their claim and said notices had already been issued.
