DADU, July 1: Twenty zamindars were booked on the charges of water theft and seven direct outlets and modules of Johi branch were sealed under the Irrigation Act here on Tuesday.

The executive engineer irrigation Dadu division, Habibullah Kabooro told Dawn that the irrigation department had taken serious notice of shortage of water in Dadu district and launched a drive against influential water thieves who had been stealing water through illegal pipes.

He disclosed that irrigation department had sent a list of 150 zamindars to the government for approval to register cases against water thieves.

He said that the irrigation department of Dadu in a massive drive against water theft raided some direct outlets of Johi barrage.

The irrigation official sealed the outlets and registered FIRs against 20 zamindars at Johi, Khairpur Nathan Shah, Rukan, Dadu and Phulji police stations, he added. He said that cases were also registered against a sub-engineer Zulfiqar Soomro darogha and beldar of tempered watercourses of Johi branch.

KARO KARI: A woman Ms Parveen, 20, wife of Asghar Panhwar was killed by her husband on Monday on the pretext of Karo Kari in village Pipri.

Dadu police have registered the case and arrested the killer.
