Six more students expelled from Indian university hostel

Six students, including four Kashmiris, were expelled from the hostel of a private university in Greater Noida city of Uttar Pradesh following an alleged clash over support during last week's Asia Cup match between Pakistan and India.
Four of the students belonged to disputed Indian territory of Kashmir while two hail from Aligarh. All of them were first-year students.
The Times of India website reported that the issue had escalated after a student of the university posted a comment on social media demanding action against students who had allegedly supported Pakistan during the Asia Cup clash against India.
The comment sparked a strong reaction and mobilisation by the students the university called in authorities when the situation went out of control.
The website quoted the university's student welfare dean as saying "Some students cheered for the Pakistani team during the match, against which the other group protested. The matter was settled, but on March 5, a student posted a provocative message on a social networking site on why the campus wasn't witnessing a similar reaction as that of Subharti University," he said.
The post has now been deleted.
The university has started its own inquiry. "Students may be considered for reallocation of hostels after 15 days," the Times of India quoted another official as saying.
Previously, 67 Kashmiri students of another university in Meerut were suspended for supporting the Pakistan cricket team against India on Sunday last.
Later the sedition charges against the suspended students were reportedly dropped.

Pakistan must understand the level of anger that 1 billion people have on Pakistan. Indians are so much fed up with Pakistan because of terrorism that they cannot appreciate Pakistan for anything good. Indians are good sports lovers, they appreciate all good players and support other countries (except Pak). Pakistan must take a lesson from this and take appropriate sincere steps to come clean w.r.t terrorism and improve relations with India.

The expulsion of the students is morally wrong and politically stupid. That there can be clashes between students over this is also sad. Perhaps we take cricket so seriously because there is nothing else in our lives that is more exciting than yearning to see victory by one set of highly paid professionals over another set of highly paid professionals on television.

Its not question of religion, but question of loyalty. Cheering for Pakistan against India shows lack of basic loyalty on part of those students which means they lack basic character. You cannot breathe Indian air, drink Indian water, eat Indian grain and sleep on Indian soil and pledge your loyalty to our adversary. Pakistanis supporting them should be broadminded enough then to accommodate them in their own colleges - if they have a better one first.

By the way, we all love Afridi and his fearless cricket. Apart from Shoib Akhtar your Lala is one Pakistani cricket who has biggest fan following here in India. But his towering sixes are sweet only when they are hit against non Indian bowlers :) We actually appreciated when he hit 2 consecutive sixers to win the match against us..it takes lot of guts to do that. But that does not mean we will start cheering for Pakistan. There is a difference between appreciating good cricket and cheering & dancing for the opposition when your own country is contesting...it is a much deeper problem related to your basic loyalty to one's motherland. Loyalty to motherland is a red line that must never be breached - come what may and that is where our Kashmiri boys have failed. I hope you people will appreciate why we are disturbed with the behaviour of these boys

Firstly, the action was taken by a private university, so nothing to do with Indian government or its democracy, freedom of speech etc. the point to note - when sane voices objected, the sedition charges were dropped. if some one still argues, May I ask whether actions by some private individuals aka Pak Taliban represent the values of Pakistan or its society ? Were blasphemy charges dropped against any accused despite they looked bogus ? For some Pakistanis this is rare chance to show their "broad-minded ness" and a chance to get some mental pleasure. I won't deny it to them.

I am from India. I do not agree with this. Just because some people want to cheer Pakistan, what's wrong with that? this is not sedition!! Tomorrow, if someone wants to cheer England, will that be sedition too? On that other hand such policies will only serve in alienating and ostracizing. We need to be have good sportsman spirit and encourage difference of opinion as a fundamental human right. Of course for people in Pakistan who are outraged by this, they should contemplate things in their own country where people are killed for blaspheming and ethnic minorities are persecuted. On the whole both countries need to improve instead of retaliation brick with brick etc...

Unfortunately, India claims to be a democracy. Nevertheless, all neutral, independent and third party members of the global fraternity of educated, mature, civilized and dedicated champions of democracy would like to know what kind of democracy is this where people don't even have their basic rights related to freedom of expression and freedom of choice?
Reliable and valid historical data of independent empirical studies prove that in essence, India is a "sham democracy" wherein non-Hindus have no rights whatsoever and they are treated worst than "Daleets and Untouchables" in most of the cases.
In fact, India is trying to befool and mislead rest of the world for being a democracy whereas the realities on ground prove beyond any reasonable doubt that as a society at large with no tolerance for non-Hindus, it is even worst than a dictatorship.
Shame on all those who are covertly and overtly spearheading, protecting and supporting non-democratic, discriminating and autocratic rules, regulations and practices for minorities in South Asia.

Pakistan offered Education in Pakistani Universities to Kashmiri students expelled by Meerut University, with scholarship, which they have not offered to anyone in Punjab, Sindh, or Baluchistan. But, Kashmiri students have rejected the offer. They know the kind of Education they get in Pak.
Kashmir cannot be snatched - either by Bullets, nor by Scholarships.

I wonder why a lot of Indians have to come and defend something quite as ridiculous as this on Pakistani newspapers? This really is quite a shameful incident and shouldn't be defended. I remember that in my university in Lahore some students would root for the opposition team (which would at times include India) just to get kicks out of it and irritating the throng of people supporting Pakistan. I never heard anything quite as ridiculous happen here and if it had I would have come out to condemn it.

To cheer a guest team by the people of the host country is a gracious act of true sportsmanship or sportswomanship.
If you are so insecure so petty so demoralized after defeat that you can expel those cheering students of your own from college and charge them with a ludicrous sedition -- then obviously you should play cricket among your own selves -- never invite a guest team from the neighboring countries.
Losing a game GRACEFULLY is not for the faint-hearted -- nor for the petty insecure small minded -- it is for the high minded people who play sports as sports and for fun -- not as an extension of their country's cheap politics.

Most Indians now realize how much of a mistake Nehru/Gandhi's democracy has been. India should have become a Hindu country in 1947. A country without a cultural unity will fail, sooner or later. Secular democracy is a stupid western concept not suited for our needs.
The political climate in India (Babri/Gujrat and the rise of Modi) is giving me hope. Hindus are finally realizing they have been duped. Hopefully, we will make India a safe home for Hindus and people friendly to Hindus. If people hate us so much, why don't they go back to their homeland. India is not a jail.

The news is that many Pakistanis work in Bollywood films and are admired here in india. Despite the fact the headquarters of Bollywood was attacked by people from Pakistan....Pakistanis are still working there. 1996 worldcup I was a student of The Aligarh muslim university. Kashmiris did cheer for srilanka and abused india openly thinking that they would get support from the muslims students. They were badly beaten up by muslim students. Its something internal to India. Pakistanis need to release a open celebration on wake of India losing by muslims have raised communal tensions in the past . Police in its attempt to diffuse the tension may have apprehended the students. Since apprehension needs a reasons they absurdly quoted the sedition law.
Even if the charges were not dropped , the sedition would not have stood the test of law due to supreme court ruling of using it only in extreme cases.

India is very much behaving like democratic country.like these kashmiri students should have freedom of speech other students too have freedom of speech.Misuse of freedom of speech will lead to clashes. when comes to violence both Hindu and muslims r same.University had taken right decision by expelling them to avoid any untoward incidence ..

There is no dispute territory in between Afghanistan-Pak and Bangladesh-Pak, so that they had three wars on these issues. Nobody sending any terrorists to other country. If India-Pak had not such problem then Indians too celebrate Pak victory but it will never happened.

Dear, taliban is an issue in Pakitsan but i does not mean that whole countary is in their slavry, if you dont mind just have a look at the map of areas that are covered by Maoist-Nixelates rebelian, and it is just one example of many such issues..........such biased steps like mentioned above, by indian instituation reflect that indians unconsciously accept thereality of Kashmir as not a part of India

Seems like now you feel where the shoe pinches.Well while you think of the youtube movie as religious abuse, someone ( the movie director) thought of it as freedom of expression. Just like you Pakistanis think that Kashmiri students shouting anti Indian slogans is freedom of speech while Indians think it as national abuse.
