ISLAMABAD: The government on Wednesday condemned a bomb attack in Bahrain that had left three policemen dead, but curiously misquoted the casualty figure.

Only three policemen were killed in the incident, one of whom was Pakistani, but the Foreign Office said: “Three police personnel and several innocent people, including one Pakistani, lost their lives.”

The bomb was detonated by remote control in the village of Daih and one of the policemen killed was from the United Arab Emirates.

“The people of Pakistan, being victims of this menace, sympathise with the people of Bahrain and the families of victims of this terrorist attack,” an FO statement said.

The mention of “several innocent people” among the dead, was ostensibly designed to show the killed Pakistani as a civilian and not a policeman.

The government had at the peak of an uprising in Bahrain allowed Bahraini authorities to recruit hundreds of Pakistanis in its security forces for crushing the revolt.

“Terrorism in all in its forms and manifestations constitutes one of the most serious threats to international peace and security,” the statement said.
