200 meters burn out in rain

VEHARI, June 29: More than 200 electricity meters have burnt in the rain because of what people claim poor quality of wires and wrong installation by Multan Electric Power Company.

Reports said Mepco, Vehari circle, removed meters from polls and installed those outside the houses and shops a month ago. The consumers complained that Mepco authorities used sub-standard wires and installed their meters without covering them.

They have demanded the company’s higher-ups that they should replace their meters.

When contacted, Wapda XEN Abdul Mateen Khan said only 60 worn-out meters had been burnt at various places. However, Mepco had started replacing all the burnt meters without charging the consumers, he added.
