HYDERABAD, June 29: The first additional district judge on Saturday issued non-bailable warrants of arrest against the adviser to chief minister of the home department, Aftab Ahmed Sheikh, who is also the senior deputy convener of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, MQM chief Altaf Hussain, Dr Imran Farooque, MQM’s deputy convener Nasreen Jalil, Shafi Karnanai of the JSQM and others in an arson case of the B-section police station.

Chairman Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz, Bashir Khan Qureshi, former Muttahida MPA Salahuddin, and others have been granted bail in crime No45/2001.

The case was lodged on June 13, 2001 at the B-section police station after two government vehicles were torched in Latifabad as the MQM and JSQM had jointly given a strike call.

The strike was observed in protest against the killing of three JSQM activists in Dadu and Khairpur on June 10, 2001 as they were heading to block the Sindh-Punjab border against the water shortage in Sindh.

The case has been fixed for hearing on August 2.
