CHITRAL: The situation in Chitral was being monitored closely with review on weekly basis to make changes in deployment of forces in the area, said Maj Gen Javed Bukhari, the general officer commanding of Swat Division, here on Sunday.

He visited Kalash valley Bumburate and held meeting with the local elders.

Maj Gen Javed told them that there was a perfect system of security in the area.

He said that no one would be allowed to carry out sabotage activities in the area and would be dealt sternly to maintain tranquility there. Kalash people didn’t need to fear from any quarter in the presence of security forces, he added.

“Our forces are capable of handling any kind of threat. The people of Chitral should rest assured that nobody can dare to disturb peace here,” the official said.

Speaking on the occasion, Kalash elder Saifula Jan lauded the initiatives of the government for the welfare of his community. He said that Kalash people enjoyed full freedom to lead their lives as per their dogmas.

Col Naeem Iqbal, the commandant of Chitral Scouts, and District Police Officer Ghulam Hussain were also present on the occasion. Earlier, Malakand Commissioner Afsar Khan also visited the valley and addressed the Kalash and Muslim elders.— Correspondent
