ISLAMABAD: After being convinced by the top military leadership of Pakistan, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif gave a go ahead for the airstrikes in North Waziristan and Khyber agencies that killed at least 35 suspected militants, highly placed credible sources told

High level civil military consultations continued for three days which culminated on these strikes, they said.

Army Chief General Raheel Sharif and intelligence heads briefed the prime minister over rapid developments in the tribal areas and also shared images of militant hideouts procured through their own spy drones.

Authorisation of the premier was sought for more strikes at other locations, which according to the sources has been granted.

In last night’s airstrikes in Mir Ali, 16 Uzbek terrorists were also killed while identification process of the other dead was underway.

There is no presence of military in Mir Ali where fighter jets of Pakistan Air Force were used to destroy the hideouts.

According to military sources, in airstrikes in Khyber Agency earlier today, seven terrorists, including three suicide bombers and a key Taliban commander, were killed.

Does it mean Civil war starting soon? Every media told by 2014 civil war will start in Pakistan, nukes will be taken away and country will divide in to smaller pieces. Seems like happening exactly what was written over the years.

Bhiku Ram Feb 21, 2014 04:43am

Well, it is good if Nawaz Sharif gave the go ahead. Even if he did not, he will have to say that he gave the go ahead otherwise it would appear in public that the army acted independent of the government, an impression the government can surely do without.

Pakistan Civilian leadership is incapable of making any bold decision so I think military has to come forward and make big decision in the interest of the country.

Ahmer Feb 21, 2014 09:02pm

According to CNN, the intensity of these surgical strikes is highest since this war, especially after 2007.... It clearly implies that the previous PPP Government of Asif Zardari and his NRO-guarantor General Kiyani were doing nothing serious except to prolonging their respective tenures.

Well done Nawaz Shairf! Qadam Barrhao Nawaz Sharif, Qaum Tumharay Saath Hai

Long Live Pakistan!

El Cid Feb 23, 2014 05:14pm

@Farooq: True. Read the Pentagon program if you have access to it. Pakistan is to be systematically taken apart, using its own government and military.

a bit technical at times but worth the study, if you have the background.
