KARACHI: Team Masud completed a treble in style when they won the Weekend Swiss Bridge Tournament by accumulating 59.47 Victory Points (VPs) at the Aslam Bridge Hall here on Sunday evening.

Team Masud having Masud Mazhar, Saleem Zaki, Hamed Mohiuddin and Javed Rehman, started their winning spree by beating Bilal 17.24, then edged out GFQ 11.05. Trailblazer were their next victim, who went fighting down 18.28 and in the last match Masud defeated Foxy 12.46.

Bilal with 52.48 VPs finished second. Having Gulzar Bilal, Anis-ur-Rehman, Ghulam Mohammad and Azwer-ul-Haque, Bilal registered three straight victories against Data Steel, Rizwan and GFQ.

Mushahid Siddiqui, Nasir Azim, Ghaffar Qureshi and Dr Minhaj Qidwai were the members of GFQ which team finished third with a total of 46.74 VPs.

In the pairs event featuring 21 pairs, Ziaullah Baig-Hamed Mohiuddin were the overall winners, scoring 64.39 per cent competing from East-West direction.

Anwer Kemal — Anwer Gheewala topped from North-South direction having a score of 59.72 per cent followed by Raza Naqvi — Mazhar Ali Khan 58.89 per cent. Zafar Zaki and Mohammad Zubair finished second from EW direction behind Zia-Hamed pair.

In the meantime, monthly pairs will be held at Karachi Gymkhana Club on Tuesday afternoon.—APP
