HARIPUR, June  28: The district council’s session witnessed unruly scenes here on Saturday when the house took up the issue of the construction of two dams on river Dorr in district Abbottabad.

The session was chaired by naib Nazim Muhammad Riaz Khan Jadoon.

Nazim city-I union council Iqbal Chauhan while initiating debate on the issue of proposed Rojoya and Barren Gali dams on river Dorr termed the projects a recipe for disaster in Haripur.

He said that since 95 per cent of agriculture system in district Haripur was depending on river Dorr’s water the construction of dams would reduce the valley of Haripur to a barren land.

Nazim union council Sikandarpur Qazi Modoodul Haq supported the views of his counterpart and exhorted the house to take concrete steps towards stalling the move.

“We should not take this matter lightly and must chalk out a joint strategy for securing our rights,” he added.

He reminded the members of adverse effects of Tarbela and Khanpur dams on the ecology and economy of the district.
