KARACHI, June 27: Chief coach of Karachi Regional Academy (KRA), Jalaluddin, called for increasing the duration of Pakistan Cricket Board academies to achieve better results.

Speaking on Friday on the eve of closing of KRA, the former Test fast bowler appreciated PCB for launching this programme for the benefit of youngsters and to groom them on scientific lines “aim and objectives of academies are great’.

KRA will play Ahmed Mustufa Cricket Coaching Academy on Saturday before winding up their third batch of the annual six-week training programme.

Jalal, a qualified Level-III coach from England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), said during the past six-week they trained and coached the boys in academy and now it was time to further work on them individually to make them quality players.

He said these academies are run on ad hocism and suggested for conducting this programme at least for a minimum of three months to achieve better results.

However, he expressed his satisfaction over the KRA progress and added they utilized all their modern resources to train the players in academy.

Jalaluddin, who had the honor of achieving first ever hat trick in One-day Internationals (against Australia in 1982), said he with fellow coach Haris Ahmed Khan used all their experience gained at the Customs Coaching Academy to coach these boys.

Without naming any boy who attended the academy programme, Jalal said out of 25 boys around 10 to 12 boys can be developed into future prospect for Pakistan if further work s is done on them.

He said it would have been very benefitting had an inter-academies tournament had been conducted during or after the conclusion of training to monitor the performance of the boys in the ground and judge their talent and potential.

Jalal said they had prepared a comprehensive data of each player and if they are handed over to another coach like Daryl Foster in the National Academy in Lahore that data can help him to know a particular player.

He said for the first time scanning of bio-mechanics of all the players was prepared by a doctor, plus their video analysis and physical fitness (endurance) data was prepared.—APP
