Sami says Taliban response to govt recommendations positive

PESHAWAR: Chief of his own faction of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam Maulana Samiul Haq said on Monday the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan had responded positively to the recommendations forwarded by the government.

Speaking to media representatives at Madrassa Darul Uloom Haqqania in Akora Khattak area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's Nowshera district after holding talks with Professor Ibrahim Khan and Maulana Yousuf Shah, Sami said the matter was a national issue which should not be dealt with emotionally.

He added that the war had spanned for years and could not be resolved in a matter of minutes.

Maulana Sami further said nothing would be concealed from the public and the whole situation would be presented before the government's committee tomorrow.

Professor Ibrahim Khan and Maulana Yousuf Shah had met with the Taliban leadership at an undisclosed location in the North Waziristan tribal region. Both had stayed overnight at the residence of Siraj Ahmed, the tribal region's political agent.

Yousuf Shah told reporters that there were four to five drones encircling the locality upon their arrival for talks.

In other related news, political administration officials reached Peshawar and held a meeting with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Engineer Shaukatullah and apprised him of the progress on peace talks.

Taliban should be made to realise that power of State is far, greater then a bunch of Robin Hoods sheltering in FATA It is sad the successive governments have taken such a long time to convey this message. Taliban's realise their vulnerability in relation to the society. the only favourable factor for them is that 60% of the society condone the anti-social activities of the Taliban's militant for religious reasons i.e. implementation of Sharia Laws

Now that Talibans are demanding "Islamic System", we should first ask them how should those killers be punished who killed tens of thousands of innocent Pakistanis? How should those people be punished who put several schools on fire? How should those people be punished who kidnap innocent people for ransom?

You sound like you are representing TTP. Are you not a Pakistani citizen?. Taking sides with the terrorists makes you one too. The only reason Army has not been successful is the fact that they have never been given the full charge of the situation. Our prime minister dreams of becoming ameer-ul-momeneen and the reason is that it will be a life-time job. Please don't think that Pakistanis do not have any intelligence.

@Hasan: Obviously logic is in short supply with the Talibans - otherwise they wouldn't be doing things that they are doing. The laws that they are trying to apply on others - does not apply to them. It is as simple as that. You cannot reason with individuals with sick mentality. Afghani's couldn't do it, Americans couldn't do it - what makes you think Pakistanis can? They only understand one way of communication - and that is FORCE. They are cowards - if you shut out their madrasas and either kill or imprison their leaders, put a lid on their recruitment and you will see a change.
