PARACHINAR: Unidentified gunmen shot dead a social worker here the other day. The deceased, Najeeb Ali Turi, also a government schoolteacher, was ambushed while on his way home form a nearby Imambargah in Malana Morokhel village. He was taken to agency headquarters hospital, Parachinar, in critical condition, but died before getting any medical help.

Sources said that it was apparently a targeted killing.

Najeeb Ali was teacher in government high school, Malana that is situated three kilometers north of here. He was an active social worker and was among notable maliks of the area and his Turi tribe. He played an active role in restoring peace to the restive region.

The deceased left behind six children, who are students of different reputable institutions of the country.

Meanwhile, a large number of people attended his funeral prayers in Kurram Agency. The victim’s family has appealed to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governor and Kurram Agency political administration to probe the brutal killing and punish the killers.

Najeeb Ali’s nephew and son-in-law, Riaz Ali Turi, is an active worker of the Pakistan Peoples Party and has been working with the party’s media wing for the last five years.—Correspondent
