TOBA TEK SINGH, June 26: Interviews for the recruitment of 150 employees on a three-year contract in the Health department have been cancelled.

More than 5,000 applications were received by the Health department the interviews of which were to be taken on June 30.

Health EDO Dr Zulfiqar Ali told Dawn on Thursday that the Punjab government had sent him a fax message informing him that a ban had been imposed on all recruitments.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Labour Party district president Tariq Mahmood, Citizens Welfare Trust president Mushtaq Kashfi and Mazdoor Kissan Party district chief Ghulam Bari have protested against the cancellation of interviews.

In a joint press statement, they expressed their fear that delay would result in the violation of merit because parliamentarians and district Nazims would make full use of their ‘job quota’.

They threatened to come on roads if appointments were made from the back doors.

CONDEMNED: All Pakistan Clerks Association and Punjab SES Teachers Association condemned the arrest of principal, Government Higher Secondary School, Kaloya, on fake charges of non-payment of the farm tax.
