ISLAMABAD, June 26: A two-member tax officials delegation would leave for Saudi Arabia on Saturday to start negotiations on a convention for the avoidance of double taxation and the prevention of fiscal evasion with respect to taxes on income between the two countries.

An official source in the Central Board of Revenue (CBR) told Dawn on Thursday the delegation would be led by member direct taxes, Vakil Ahmad Khan,

During the stay, the tax officials would discuss with their counterparts the articles of the proposed agreement to reach a consensus before finalizing it for implementation.

The decision of having a convention on avoidance of double taxation was taken following the decision of Saudi Shura to levy income tax on income of foreign residents living in Saudi Arabia.

The Pakistani community in Saudi Arabia in a meeting with President Musharraf visit to the Kingdom last year asked for the treaty to avoid double taxes on their income.
