ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has once again ordered closure of Hashmet Medical College, Gujrat.

Last year, the PMDC banned admissions to Hashmat Medical and Dental College for being deficient in some basic facilities required for a college.

But the college moved the Lahore High Court against the PMDC decision and the court ordered a fresh inspection.

The council nominated among others Rafea Tafweez Qurashi, professor of anatomy, King Edward Medical College, Javed Akram, professor of medicine and Fazal Hameed, professor of anesthesia at Agha Khan University on the team which carried out fresh inspection.

Registrar PMDC Raja Amjad said, “The College was required to obtain 750 marks out of 1,000 but it took only 328 marks.

The accreditation committee after going through the report of the inspection report again recommended the college name to the ministry for closure.

The report has also been submitted to the court,” he said.

“There are some colleges which are working illegally as they do not fulfil the criteria set by the PMDC for a college and have been stopped from taking admission,” he said.

They are: Pakistan Red Crescent Medical and Dental College in Lahore, Mohiuddin Islamic Medical College in Mirpur, Abbotabad International Medical College, Independent Medical College in Faisalabad, Women Medical College Abbottabad, Hashmat Medical and Dental College in Gujrat, Al-Razi Medical College Peshawar, Sahiwal Medical College in Sahiwal, Muhammad Bin Qasim Dental and Medical College in Karachi, Bhittain Medical and Dental College in Mirpur Khas, and Federal Medical and Dental College in Islamabad,” he said.
