RAWALPINDI: After intelligence report that militants may target national and international airlines at Benazir Bhutto airport, the security there has been put on ‘red alert’.

The security sources said the intelligence had particularly mentioned a national airline to Birmingham which the terrorist planned to hit during January 17 to January 24.

The source said that personnel of Airport Security Force and intelligence staff would man all important points of the airport. Besides, the ASF has cancelled all entry passes for the airport.

The Ranger has already been deployed at the airport to further tighten the security in order to avert any terror threat.

A senior security official speaking on condition of anonymity said scrutiny of passengers’ baggage, identification and travel documents had been tightened.

In addition, the security personnel had also been directed to shoot at sight any person who was spotted entering into restricted area of Nur Khan Airbase or airport.
