LARKANA, June 24: The police arrested four alleged bandits after an encounter near Naudero on Tuesday and recovered three Kalashnikovs and a pistol from their possession, said DPO Sultan Ahmed Khowaja.

Speaking at a news conference at his office here, the DPO said that acting on a tip off, a police team cordoned off a tube-well near Naudero where the bandits had taken refuge.

The police asked the bandits to surrender but they opened fire. The police returned the fire, lobbed tear gas shells and overpowered the bandits, he said.

The bandits were identified as Habibullah Rind alias Haboo, Niaz Rind, Mohammad Nawaz Dahani and Mir Mohammed Jalbani alias Miro.

The DPO said that the gang was active in Larkana, Sukkur and Shikarpur districts for last 10 years and the gang members were nominated in around 40 cases.

He said they were involved in killing the mother of former SDM Baqaullah Unnar near Dakhan and kidnapping three villagers, Shoukat, Ghulam Mustafa and Wazeer from Madeji and later killing Wazeer.
