HYDERABAD: Elections of the Hyderabad District Cricket Association, held here on Friday, were marred by boycott of three main contestants.

Haider Raza was elected as president, Ahmed Ali as secretary and Ghulam Sarwar Mahar as treasurer as the results were announced by Pakistan Cricket Board election commissioner Mohammad Siddique.

At the polls held at the Niaz Stadium, Raza bagged 27 votes, Ahmed 31 and Sarwar 29 out of the total 41 votes to serve for three years.

Mohammad Amir Amin, Babar Ashraf Mughal and Qamaruddin Adeel boycotted the elections. They were contesting for the posts of president, secretary and treasurer respectively.

According to Amir, scrutiny conducted by the PCB in 2013 was full of irregularities and he had raised the issue then.

He regretted that active cricket clubs were denied the right to vote while those which were given membership of the district association just a few months back were given the voting right.

“We are now consulting legal experts,” he added.

He said 10 clubs were expelled out of 31 which were scrutinised.

Amir added that Al Amir, Mehboob, Afzal and Ghauri Sports became victims of PCB’s biased scrutiny process.

He said Ahmed Ali is a government employee but this objection was not considered by the PCB.

The candidates along with their supporters staged a protest demonstration outside the press club, demanding of PCB chairman Zaka Ashraf to order fresh scrutiny.

“Candidates’ clubs also don’t meet the requirements,” said a cricket organiser.
