ISLAMABAD, June 23: The interior minister, Makhdoom Faisal Saleh Hayat, will be briefed about a proposed budget of Capital Development Authority (CDA) for the year 2003-2004, a source told Dawn.

The CDA has prepared Rs4.6 billion budget for the next fiscal, which may be announced by the end of current month.

The briefing will be given by the CDA member finance, Masud Muzaffar, in the ministry at about 10am on Tuesday. CDA Chairman Chaudhry Abdul Rauf will also attend the briefing.

The minister is likely to give various suggestions, emphasizing improvement in civic services and beautification of the city, the source said.

The authority is reportedly considering to increase water charges to meet the budget deficit.

A proposal regarding levy of residence tax is also under consideration. This tax had never been imposed anywhere in the country, but now it was being levied in many countries including Islamabad.
