PESHAWAR: The policed have recommended the name of Aitezaz Hussain, a grade 9 student who was killed while thwarting a suicide attack in Hangu, to the provincial government for the highest civil award.

Inspector General of Police Nasir Khan Durrani on Thursday recommended the name of Aitezaz to the government for the award in a letter, saying that the student sacrificed his life to save lives of many others in a school.

A suicide bomber had blown himself up just a few steps away from Government High School Ibrahimzai in district Hangu on January 7. The apparent target of the bomber was the school building where students were busy in morning assembly.

“This martyred student needs to be acknowledged at the highest forum and sufficient compensation should be paid to his family,” the letter said.

Meanwhile, Minister for Information Shah Farman also said on Thursday that Aitizaz was a real hero and true face of the people of the province whose sacrifice would not waste.

He said that government would extend all possible compensation to his family and chief minister would soon make an announcement in that regard. —Bureau
