KARACHI: A young man was gunned down in a suspected targeted attack in Awami Colony on Thursday morning, police said.

Gunmen riding a motorcycle attacked Abdul Hameed, 32, on ‘Singer Pul’. He was coming home on a motorbike after dropping his children at a private school in Zaman Town. He sustained two bullet wounds in the head and chest and was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where doctors pronounced him dead.

“It appears to be an act of targeted killing,” said Awami Colony SHO Hatim Khan Marvat. He said the victim was the vice president of the Pakistan Muslim League in UC-9, Awami Colony. Mr Hameed ran a general store in the area and originally hailed from Hazara.

Man shot dead inside office

A young man was shot dead in the Ferozabad area, police said.

Irfan Khaliq, 32, was shot at and wounded inside an office of a private firm in PECHS, Block-2. He was taken to the JPMC, where doctors pronounced him dead.He was a tailor in the Tariq Road area and lived in Gharibabad.

He had gone to the company’s office, where he was murdered, Ferozabad ASP Akhter Farooq said. He said Mr Khaliq was arrested in a robbery case in the recent past and released from prison. “The police are investigating whether the murder is the outcome of an extortion or transaction-related activity,” said the ASP. “We are sure the murder took place inside the firm’s office.”

Man killed in Chakiwara

A young man was shot dead and two passersby were wounded in Chakiwara.

Police said Imran Suleman, 27, was passing through the main Chakiwara road near ‘Sara petrol pump’ when four gunmen riding two motorcycles and wearing helmets opened fire on him. He sustained multiple bullet wounds and was taken to the Civil Hospital Karachi, where he was pronounced dead.

Two passersby Sajjad Nazar, 25, and rickshaw driver Usman Ghani also sustained minor bullet injuries.

Relatives told the police that the dead victim was working in a factory in Shershah, said Chakiwara SHO Sajjad Mangi. He said the victim was a resident of Dubai Chowk.

Robbers kill man in minibus

A young man was shot dead by suspected robbers on resistance in a moving passenger vehicle in Rizvia Society, according to police.

They said three suspects entered a minibus of X-3 route at the Nadria roundabout and demanded cellphone from Noor Khan Ghazi, 30. As he resisted, the suspects fired at him and fled, said Rizvia Society SHO Hasan Haider. He sustained a single bullet wound in an eye and was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Mysterious killing

A man was shot dead in a ‘coaster’ in Saeedabad under mysterious circumstances.

Police said an armed man entered the vehicle and sat on a seat next to Mohammad Ishaq, 53, near the Bismillah roundabout. He saw the pistol and asked the man why he was carrying the weapon, said Saeedabad SHO Saghir Hussain. And a heated argument a scuffle ensued between them, leading to the victim’s killing, added the officer. The suspect fled. The body was taken to the Civil Hospital Karachi for a post-mortem examination.

Young man found dead in Manghopir

A young man was found shod dead in the Manghopir area on Thursday.

Police said the bullet-riddled body of the man in his early 30s was found in a hilly area near Ghazi Goth. The corpse was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where his identity could not be ascertained immediately.

Circumstantial evidence suggested that he was kidnapped and killed somewhere else and his body was thrown there, said Manghopir SHO Ghulam Hussain Korai. He said the victim with a short beard wore trousers and shirt.
