KARACHI: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) announced on Friday the schedule for the local government elections in Punjab, DawnNews reported.

According to the schedule, polling will take place on January 30, 2014.

The election process will begin from December 22, 2013 when the ECP will start accepting nomination papers of the candidates. The deadline for submitting the nomination papers is December 27.

Any reservations regarding candidates’ nomination papers would be heard on December 29.

The ECP will scrutinise the nomination papers from December 30 to January 4.

On January 13, the ECP will issue the final list containing the names of the candidates. Their election symbols will also be allotted the same day.

The ECP has also released a code of conduct along with the election schedule.

The code of conduct stipulates the campaign expenditure limit, which has been set at Rs. 20,000 to Rs 200,000.

Moreover, rallies during the campaign period have been prohibited. Instead, only corner meetings would be allowed during this period.

The code of conduct also limits the size of the campaign posters to two feet in width and three feet in length.

Furthermore, persons holding dual citizenship would not be allowed to contest the LG polls.
