GUJRAT, June 20: The Saddar circle police claimed on Friday to have shot dead two of the nominated murderers, who killed seven people, including a woman and her minor son, at Kharian on Thursday.

The encounter took place near Langay village, Kunjah, early in the morning.

Six assailants, led by Qadir Dad, had shot dead Shamraiz Iqbal, Badr Mohyuddin, Amjad, Sajjad Husain, Lal Khan, Robina Kausar and her minor son Iqbal near Mandi Mawashian over old score.

The Kharian Cantonment police registered a case against suspects Qadir Dad, Muhammad Aslam, Razzaq, Fateh Dad, Khizar Hayat and Shan Ali. Gujranwala Range DIG Malik Muhammad Iqbal and DPO Raja Munawar Husain directed the police teams to start hunt for the culprits. The DPO constituted several raiding teams to arrest the murderers.

Mangowal chowki in-charge, Sub-Inspector Shahbaz, received information about the presence of Qadir Dad and Aslam at an abandoned outhouse at the village. The DPO dispatched a team, headed by Kunjah SHO Muhammad Sadiq, which besieged the house.

Seeing police, the armed men opened fire which was returned by the police force. In the shootout that continued for more than an hour, the two house inmates were shot dead. The police recovered two kalashnikovs, a cell phone and huge quantity of cartridges from the house.

Meanwhile, a police raided Kotla Qasim, a locality at Lalamusa, and arrested the deceased’s accomplice Razzaq with a kalashnikov.

BURIED: The seven victims of the ambush were laid to rest later in the day at their ancestral graveyards.
