KARACHI, Dec 13: The Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) staged a protest demonstration here on Friday against the execution of JI leader Abdul Quader Mollah in Bangladesh a day earlier.

Several JI activists blocked the main University Road and staged the demonstration against the killing and demanded that the government of Pakistan expel the Bangladeshi ambassador from Pakistan.

Addressing the protesters outside the Bait-ul-Mukarram mosque in Gulshan-i-Iqbal after Friday prayers, Sindh JI chief Dr Merajul Huda Siddiqui said that the so-called war crime tribunal of the Bangladesh government had awarded the death penalty to Quader Mollah over fake testimonies.

He said that the death of Quader Mollah would not eliminate his mission and Islamic movements would move forward by taking inspiration from him.

He criticised the Pakistani government and human rights organisations for their silence over the execution.

He said: “Why are human rights organisations silent on this grave injustice? Why has the government played no role in rescuing a person who even prayed for Pakistan in his last letter?”

Speaking on the occasion, Karachi JI chief Hafiz Naeemur Rehman said that Bangladesh prime minister Hasina Wajed had fulfilled an Indian agenda by executing Quader Mollah.

“None of the governments of Hasina Wajed, Nawaz Sharif or General Sisi can stop Islamic movements and they will reach their logical ends,” he added.

JI deputy chief of Karachi Nasrullah Shaji said that Quader Mollah was a courageous man as he refused to bow down before evil forces and embraced martyrdom.

The JI deputy chief of Sindh and other leaders of the party also addressed the gathering.

A resolution condemning the death penalty was also approved by the protesters. —PPI
