LAHORE, Dec 14: Members of the Christian community on Friday observed fast to express solidarity with Muslims in response to a call by Roman Catholics’s spiritual leader Pope Paul-II.

The purpose of observing fast along with Muslims was stated to be an affirmation that both the communities will jointly work for establishing world peace and upholding the human fraternity.

In Lahore, a representative gathering of Christians and Muslims held at the St. Anthony’s High School on Lawrence Road under the aegis of the Minorities Advisory Council, Punjab, resolved that a society based on tolerance and goodwill among all sections of the people would be established in the country.

Punjab Law Minister Dr. Khalid Ranjha, who presided over the function, said with a view to eliminate repression and injustices wherever they existed in the world, it was necessary for the people to shed all prejudices and discriminations and work for the welfare of humanity at large.

He said the role of teachers and ulema was highly significant for achieving the objective.

He praised the services rendered by members of the Christian community in nation building activities, including the promotion of education and health-care.
