ISLAMABAD, Dec 11: Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) of IslamabadWednesday indicted Abdullah Umar, Hammad Adil and Adnan Adil in the murder case of Chaudhry Zulfiqar Ali, a special prosecutor of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).

Ali was public prosecutor in high profile cases including the murder case of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto, Mumbai attacks case and Haj corruption case.

He was murdered on May 3, 2013 near his residence in sector G-9 while he was going to attend hearing in Benazir Bhutto murder case in an ATC of Rawalpindi.

The police arrested Abdullah Umar on June 12 from Quaid-i-Azam International Hospital, Islamabad. According to the police challan Umar was among the Ali’s assassins.

Umar received a bullet fired by the gunman of the prosecutor but his accomplices managed to take him along and later admitted him in the hospital.

Another attacker Harris Khan was, however, killed during the attack.

The police arrested Hammad and Adnan, the two brothers from Bhara Kahu in September and recovered some illegal weapons from their custody.

Tanveer Ahmed alias Ishaq, fourth accused in the case, however, absconded.

According to the police report, these accused were allegedly involved in the murder of former federal minister for minorities, Shahbaz Bhatti, who was assassinated near his residence in the sector I-8 in March 2011.

The same court also took up the Shahbaz Bhatti murder case but deferred the proceedings as the police had yet to file complete challan in the case.
