SUKKUR, Dec 1: Describing the recently introduced Protection of Pakistan Ordinance (PPO) as against Islam and the Constitution of Pakistan, Jamiat Ulema Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Moulana Fazalur Rehman has refused to support it.

Addressing the 75th Dastar-e-Fazilat Conference at the playground of Madressah Hammadia Manzilgah here on Sunday, he said the law would affect the basic rights of the people of Pakistan.

He asked who would be responsible if a person was kept under custody for 90 days without registration of FIR and his arrest was shown after that period and who would be responsible if he got killed.

Raising some other questions, he said the law would be used in a wrong way because people were being killed on the basis of doubt and this exercise should be ended.

Refuting allegations against Ulemas, he said: “We want to adopt the constitution and democracy.” If anyone said that the constitution did not accept the judiciary and deny the state, he was a traitor, he said.

“The constitution says that Islam will be the Pakistan state’s religion”, he said and asked who was derailing Pakistan for the last 67 years and making laws against the constitution.

He said the recommendations of Islamic Ideology Council were being overlooked, adding that those who were against the proposals should be beheaded and their houses be set on fire. He said the people opposing the Constitution of Pakistan and their supporters were traitors and rebels.

He accused the US of playing a role to quarrel the Muslims among themselves and clashes between Sunnis and Shias and said the institutions of the state wanted to divide the country in the name of religion.

He said that those involved in sparking clashes through misunderstandings during celebrations of Rabiul Awwal and processions of Muharram were not sincere with the country. A big conspiracy was being hatched against Madressahs, he said.

He said the JUI-F which was the country’s and Islam’s big force was against the armed battle. The party struggled under the constitution for the implementation of Islamic laws and despite that “we are called extremists”.

The Dastar-i-Fazilat conference was attended by citizens, Ulemas and Madressah students of Sukkur and its surrounding areas in a large number.

Others who addressed the conference, included JUI-F secretary general Moulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri, provincial general secretary Dr Khalid Mehmood Soomro, Moulana Saud Afzal Halejvi, Moulana Abdul Qayoom Halejvi, Qari Kamran Ahmed, Moulana Abdul Razzake Mekho, JUI-F provincial spokesman Muhammad Aslam Ghouri, Moulana Abdullah Pahor, Moulana Abdul Haq Mahar, Moulana Ali Sher Brohi and Agha Said Muhammad Shah.

At the end of the event, prayers were offered for the progress of Islam and prosperity of the country.
