ISLAMABAD, June 10: Prime Minister Zafarullah Khan Jamali Tuesday urged the people — whether in uniform or not — to forge unity for a stronger, more stable and prosperous Pakistan.

He said this while attending a briefing at the ministry of defence here.

Terming the country’s defence the government’s prime responsibility, he said that budgetary constraints would not be allowed to deter the government from fulfilling genuine needs in this regard.

Minister for Defence Rao Sikandar Iqbal, minister of state for defence production Maj (Retd) Habibullah Warraich and other senior officials attended the briefing.

Expressing the government’s determination to bolster the country’s defence, he said that despite being a peace-loving country, Pakistan was quite capable of defending itself against any aggression.

Secretaries of defence and defence production briefed the prime minister.

Earlier, the prime minister was welcomed by the defence minister who also holds senior minister’s office.

He also held a brief meeting with the defence minister before the briefing.
