SRINAGAR, June 9: An Indian constable on Monday shot dead two of his colleagues in a dispute before being killed by another policeman at a camp in occupied Kashmir, where seven more people died in continuing violence.

Police sources said the federal Central Reserve Police Force constable shot dead two of his colleagues after a row at a security camp in the Srinagar’s Bakshi Stadium.

“Minutes later the constable was also killed by his colleagues,” a police officer said.

It follows other incidents in which members of the Indian army and paramilitary forces, which are battling Mujahideen, have shot colleagues after arguments.

Doctors say the troops in occupied Kashmir are under constant psychological pressure and are away from their families for months at a time. Most of the incidents are triggered by troops not getting permission to go on leave.

Meanwhile, police said four men belonging to the Lashkar-i-Toiba were killed on Monday by a joint army and police operation in a village in the Poonch district.

A soldier was also killed on Monday in an ambush on an army patrol in the town of Banihal.

Another soldier and a Muslim civilian was killed in two attacks by Mujahideen in southern Doda and northern Baramulla districts overnight, a police spokesman said.—AFP
