HYDERABAD, Nov 17: Activists of the Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ) held demonstrations in a number of Sindh towns on Sunday in protest against the tragic incident in Rawalpindi on Ashura day in which a mob torched a seminary and beat two students to death.

They demanded the federal government immediately arrest the attackers and killers of the innocent students.

In Hyderabad, the ASWJ protesters held a demonstration under the banner of Sunni Action Committee Sindh outside the press club under the watchful eyes of a heavy contingent of police and Rangers who were deployed on both sides of the road. Besides, snipers were also deployed on nearby high-rise buildings to monitor the protest.

ASWJ Sindh chapter secretary information Syed Asim Ali Shah said while addressing the protesters that his organisation urged the federal government to immediately arrest the students’ killers and miscreants involved in the attack on seminary in Rawalpindi.

He called for a ban on mourning processions’ march on main thoroughfares and urged the government to restrict mourners to specific space.

He condemned the attack on Madressah Talimul Quran and said the mob first tortured innocent students of the seminary to death then torched the seminary, mosque and other buildings.

He said: “I want to ask law enforcement agencies and government officials have they given a licence to mourners to mow down innocent and peaceful madrassah students.

He warned if the government did not immediately arrest the attackers of the seminary and gave them exemplary punishment, ASWJ could not give a guarantee for peace in the country.

“If the government cant arrest the killers and punish them then we will wait for a call from our leadership to handle the situation,” he said.

He lashed out at media and said it did not play a professional role and tried to hush up the tragic incident.

The vice president of ASWJ Hyderabad chapter, Mufti Abdul Qayyum Haideri, appealed to law enforcement agencies to keep a watchful eye on the miscreants to make the country peaceful and stable.

The demonstration ended peacefully after the leaders asked the crowd to disperse after praying for the dead and injured in the incident.

BADIN: ASWJ workers took out processions and held demonstrations in Tando Bago and Matli towns outside the press clubs to condemn killing of seminary students by a mob in Rawalpindi.

They urged the government to immediately bring the culprits to book.

MIRPURKHAS: Hundreds of workers and office-bearers of Sunni Action committee took out a procession in protest against the tragic incident in Rawalpindi on Ashura day.

Hafiz Ataullah Haidery who led the protest held the Ralwalpindi administration responsible for the gory incident and urged the government to order an impartial inquiry into the attack on seminary, arrest the culprits and award them exemplary punishment.

He said the incident could be a well planned conspiracy to pit followers of Shia and Sunni schools of thought against each other and tear apart religious harmony.

SUKKUR: Activists of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl and ASWJ took out processions in Thull town and Kashmore to protest tragic incident in Rawalpindi and killing of seminary students.

Maulana Ali Hassan Buriro, Jawed Anwar Channa and Syed Basit Ali Shah who led the JUI-F protest condemned attack on the madrassah and demanded immediate arrest of the culprits involved in it.

The ASWJ activists brought out a procession in Kashmore town which marched on different roads before assembling before the press club.

Qari Abdul Wahab and other ASWJ leaders who led the procession said the Rawalpindi incident appeared to be part of a conspiracy to pit people of different sects against each other.

They demanded a high-level and thorough probe into the incident and called for drastic action against the culprits involved in the tragic incident.
