LAHORE, Nov 9: Vice chancellors of Punjab University and Government College University along with faculty members on Saturday separately laid wreaths at Allama Iqbal’s mausoleum and offered fateha.

The Allama Iqbal Open University also organised a ceremony at its Lahore regional campus to mark the 136th birth anniversary of Dr Allama Mohammad Iqbal.

Speaking at a ceremony, AIOU VC Dr Nazir Ahmad Sanghi stressed the need to understand the vision of Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Poet of the East Allama Iqbal for the progress of the country.

He said the nation should get united to get rid of challenges being faced by the country.

PU: At Punjab University, the Department of Iqbaliaat and PU Library organised a ceremony in connection with Iqbal Day.

Speaking on the occasion, VC Dr Mujahid Kamran called upon the authorities concerned to widely spread the ideology of Iqbal at schools, colleges and universities as Pakistan had come into being because of his thoughts and dream.

Iqbal Chair’s Prof Dr Syed Muhammad Akram Shah said the poet’s work gave the nation a lesson of unity as he was a torchbearer of unity for Muslims.

GCU: Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Khaleequr Rahman said a Ravian Allama Iqbal’s philosophy was a beacon of light for the youth and guaranteed Muslim renaissance.

He said Iqbal’s deliberations both in verse and prose fuelled the imagination of Muslims, particularly his poetry composed in Urdu and Persian spelled out the manifesto for purposeful change.
