LAHORE, June 7: The work on the country’s first plant for production of farm quality manure by recycling the solid waste will begin by the end of this month.

The plant, to be set up at the Mahmood Booti dumping site, will produce 30,000 tons of manure a year from the solid waste.

The city district government has already issued a letter of intent for the establishment of the plant involving a foreign investment of $5 million. The CDG Solid Waste Management is now examining the details of the proposed project for signing of a proper agreement and giving a go ahead for starting the construction work at the site.

The CDG is also taking keen interest in the project because it acquired the land at Mahmood Booti for setting up the plant and the former owners have moved the Lahore High Court for getting it back on the ground that it had not been done so far.

The plant will be set up on 200 kanals of land to be provided by the government at the 539-kanal dumping ground. Work on the project is expected to be completed within nine months. It will recycle 1,000 tons of solid waste daily to produce 2,500 tons of manure every month.

Solid waste will be converted into manure by using the wind rows process in three months. Wind will be passed through the rows of solid waste for converting it into manure.
