RAWALPINDI, June 7: With the advent of hot weather, the Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) has started an unscheduled loadshedding, causing great trouble to people.

Every day, power supply is suspended for hours in different areas of tehsil and cantonment without any prior announcement. It is not so in the areas populated by the army officers.

The duration of loadshedding has increased manifolds after the start of the heatwave. People in different localities in the tehsil and the cantonment areas said Wapda had been regularly sending inflated electricity bills to the consumers but had no care for their sufferings. The executive engineer of the Islamabad Electric Supply Company (Iesco), Shafi Chohan, said no loadshedding had been started. “It is because of some improvement works being carried out in different areas.”

He said due to the hot weather, the load has increased and, therefore, more transformers had been installed to enhance the capacity and enable the system to bear the extra burden.
