KARACHI, June 7: Sindh Education Minister Irfanullah Khan Marwat on Saturday announced Rs2.5 million grant for the rehabilitation and renovation of the Islamia Science College and for construction of an auditorium in the college.

He was speaking at a ceremony at the college, arranged to award certificates and shields to the teachers, who completed 25 years of their service, and to those students who got positions in examinations and games.

He said extensive efforts were needed for improving the public educational institutions and added that performance of government educational institutions in interior Sindh was also not satisfactory.

The minister, on the occasion, also informed that to overcome the shortage of teachers, the sanctioned nondevelopment expenditures (SNE) for eight colleges of the city had been approved and as soon as the ban on jobs would be lifted, shortage of teachers would be overcome.

Mr Marwat said that Rs8 million were being provided for sports competitions among the students of public educational institutions, which would be held after the summer vacations.

He pointed out that the education department was facing various problems and for their resolution effective measures were being adopted.

The minister said that government has increased the education budget, considerably, and added that government school teachers showing good results would be awarded.

The principal of the college, Abdul Qudoos, MNA, Mehdi, MPA, Mr Younas, MPA, Mr Nasarullah and ADO colleges, also spoke on the occasion.—PPI
