KARACHI, Nov 3: Rawalpindi recorded their second win on the trot in the Quaid-i-Azam Trophy National Cricket Championship when they beat Abbottabad by eight wickets at the Pindi Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi on Sunday.

Wicket-keeper Rehan Afridi’s second hundred in as many matches (104 not out off 137 balls, 16 boundaries) delayed the inevitable as Abbottabad extended their overnight score of 140-6 to 274 all out on the last day of the four-day fixture.

Needing just 62, the home team — which thrashed Bahawalpur in Multan in the opening round by innings — lost two wickets before achieving victory.

Multan proved too tough for Quetta as they annihilated the visitors by an innings and six runs at the Multan Cricket Stadium. Quetta lost their remaining three wickets in 10 overs after being hopelessly placed at 157-7 at stumps on Saturday.

Lahore Shalimar celebrated their first victory of the season while getting the better of Faisalabad by seven wickets at the LCCA Ground in Lahore.

After claiming the last two Faisalabad wickets for the addition of 34 runs, Lahore Shalimar made light work of their small 125-run target. Opener Imran Butt hit 10 fours in making 74 from 107 deliveries.

Sialkot opted for batting practice by reaching 276 in their second innings of the drawn game against Peshawar at the Jinnah Stadium in Sialkot. Naved Sarwar fell six short of a century while veteran Hafiz Majid Jahangir contributed 86.

Saad Ali, a 20-year-old left-hander, scored a maiden first-class hundred when he converted his overnight score of 53 into an undefeated 118 (285 balls, 15 fours) as Karachi Whites totalled 251 in their second innings against Islamabad at the Diamond Club Ground.

In the remaining time, the hosts mustered 131-5 in pursuit of a meaningless 287-run chase.

Both Sialkot and Karachi Whites earned three points for leading their rivals on the first innings.

Champions Karachi Blues, meanwhile, had completed a five-wicket triumph against Bahawalpur inside three days at the National Stadium in Karachi on Saturday.

All teams who competed in the second-round of matches would now prepare to play in the round two of the National One-Day Cup on Tuesday.
